Habe soeben per Twitter von@LotusEducation gelesen: "NEW - IBM Lotus Symphony 1.3 is available to download TODAY ! http://ow.ly/dt6b http://ow.ly/dt9C". Habe - da ich unterdessen Mac-Anwender bin - sofort zurückgezwitschert, ob die Version 1.3 auch für den Mac verfügbar sei. Schere im eigenen Kopf. Die Linux-. Mac- und Windows-Versionen sind da. Hier die verfügbaren Versionen:

Wie sehr etwas "Standard" ist, merkt man immer, wenn der Hersteller seine Unterstützung (mehr oder weniger klammheimlich) einstellt.
 
Wer ganz unbedarft das SP3 für sein MS Office 2003 installiert, wird sich wundern, dass sich einige Word Dokumente, Powerpoints und Excels plötzlich nicht mehr öffenen lassen. Ein verstecktes, neues "Feature."

Ein Blick in die Knowledgebase von Microsoft zeigt die Liste der betroffenen Fileformate. Microsoft gibt an die Nutzer damit schützen zu wollen. ...Indem man Fileformate nicht mehr unterstützt??? Zugegeben, es sind nur Dokumente betroffen, die mit älteren Versionen geschrieben wurden. Nur haben auch sie die klassischen Endungen (doc, ppt, xls) und sind als solche auf der Festplatte erst einmal nicht zu erkennen.

Mir wird da etwas mulmig, bei den vielen docs und ppts auf meiner Festplatte. Wann wird Microsoft auch die Unterstützung für neuere Versionen einstellen, wo sie doch jetzt ihre neuen XML Formate hofieren, deren Anerkennung als offener Standard im Schnellverfahren kürzlich gescheitert war. Ich glaube, ich fange mal an meine Dokumente of den ISO Standard Open Document Format (ODF) zu konvertieren. Dafür gibt es immer mehr gute Editoren, wie auch (das zur Zeit noch im Beta befindliche) Lotus Symphony, das ja z.B. in Notes 8 auch (optional) integriert ist.

PS.:Ganz nebenbei: es wird auch die Unterstützung für die Lotus 123 Formate gekappt.
